Bellingham is one of the largest cities in Washington, just south of Vancouver, B.C. and just north of Mount Vernon (~45 min. drive).

We all know Seattle! It's about a 45 min. to 2 hour drive to Mount Vernon depending HEAVILY on highway traffic. If you fly into SeaTac and rent a car, watch out for rush-hour... or just hang out in the city (get some food, walk around, etc.) until traffic dies down.
