Getting to Mount Vernon from Seattle may seem daunting if you don't have a rental car or train ride planned.
But it's not! Bellair shuttle (usually ~$50/person) goes from the airport right to Burlington (which melds into Mount Vernon).
Some of the best Mexican food you can get - and this is coming from two people who used to live in Texas!
The name says it all - they have great brunch and drinks. A book's been written about this place! 100% do recommend.
I thought I knew what good bagels were having lived in New Jersey for a few years.
I was wrong.
Whidbey Island Bagel Factory makes their bagels from scratch HERE. It's local, got a café, and LOVED by the whole town. Get your breakfast or lunch (or brunch) here if you can!
(Also they love Oro, despite his barking.)
It's a paint-your-own-pottery store; that in itself is awesome.
They have tons of events and art classes too. If you're looking to get out of the rain for something creative, this is the place to do it.
This is the pride of Skagit County - one part park, one part plaza, one part super-effect flood wall.
If there's one thing you do in Mount Vernon aside from attending our wedding, it should be this. It's right next to downtown, has plenty of space, and you can literally watch Bald Eagles catch salmon from a bench. #Magestic
Our favorite hiking spot!
Little mountain has a variety of different intensity paths, going from huffing straight up the mountain along muddy, sheer paths to just driving to the top (there's handicap parking).
Better yet, you really can't get lost here: all paths come back to Mount Vernon.
July 19th, our local Archery club is teaching the basics for free! Seriously!
If you've ever wanted to try to shot a bow and arrow, this is your (odd) chance to do it!

Got kids you need to tire out? Or a pickleball itch you need to scratch? Or just want to idly walk through a small forest path?
Hillcrest park has you covered! It has multiple jungle gyms, large spaces to run around, and hey; it's also the reception venue!
About 20-30 min. south of Mount Vernon.
It's a gorgeous sea-side park, and we often romp there with Oro while talking about Big Things. It's a great spot for that type of thing.
...But wear mud-accepting shoes.
About 20-30 min. west of Mount Vernon, this is where Nancy Lynch and George Kegley first introduced Jp to the area.
It's a smooth-stone, drift-wood beach next to one of the most powerful channels in all Puget Sound (so don't come here to swim). Gorgeous, and a great place to get away and explore.
About 20-30 min. north of Mount Vernon.
Some places are just truly magical, and that's Oyster Dome. Unbeknownst to use, it turns out to be one of the most famous hikes in all of the Pacific Northwest because its views are just THAT good.
And if hiking isn't your thing, there is a road and handicap accessible parking lot up top too!
